GP Training

We are a GP Training practice (all of our GP Partners are ex-trainees), with education and high quality clinical care at the forefront.

The practice was originally established in 1968 by Dr Lowe, a pioneering GP, working from a council house.  His aim was to provide an accessible and effective Primary Health Care Team at the heart of the community.  Over the years, the practice has grown and developed considerably, but its training legacy has been passed down through others such as Dr Smerdon (who was a GP Trainer and course organiser for many years until his retirement).

Despite many organisational changes in the NHS as a whole, we endeavour to uphold the values of traditional general practice, recognising the importance of continuity of care, and a Team that works well together for the benefit of patients.

Patients at the practice should be aware that the GP trainees are fully qualified doctors who have been working for a number of years, and have much expertise to bring to the practice.  In their time with us they are gaining experience of life as a GP, with the goal of becoming ‘fully fledged’ GPs themselves.

From time to time they may request that they video record their consultation with you, in order that they can assess and develop their consultation skills.  Please note that you will always be asked for your consent and you are under no obligation.  Video consultations are viewed only by the trainee and the trainer supervising them, and are then deleted. You will not be videoed being examined. We are very grateful for patients who agree to this extremely useful training aid.

The practice does not teach medical students.
